Inland Empire (LYNCH) with Introduction on Lynch and Digital Cinema - Wednesday 30th April 2008, 6.30pm.
Shot over 2 1/2 years, Lynch¹s first foray into digital cinema marks his most surreal exploration into film and the actresses psyche. Cinema of the surreal icon David Lynch follows up the success of his critically acclaimed 2001 feature Mulholland Drive with this dark mystery, shot on a handheld Sony PD150 digital video recorder. Lynch¹s tale centres on Niki (Laura Dern) an actress whose personality becomes increasingly fragmented as she delves ever deeper into her work for a high-profile filmmaker.
Introduced by: Dr. Steven Peacock (Lecturer in Film, University of Herts) who will cite Lynch¹s previous works and his contemporary interest in digital film and internet based exhibition.

Hallam Foe (David Mackenzie, 18, 2007) with Introduction, Wednesday 4th June 2008, 6.30pm
Based on Peter Jinks' cult novel, David MacKenzie (The Last
Great Wilderness, Young Adam) directs Jamie Bell as the eponymous teenage anti-hero in this darkly funny and bittersweet coming-of-age tale. Hallam is a 17 year old dysfunctional teenager who likes to watch the world from a tree house in the grounds of his father's house in the Scottish Borders. Almost over his
mother's apparent suicide, Hallam begins to suspect that his beautiful stepmother may have had a hand in her death, and it doesn't help that Hallam fancies her rotten.
Hallam eventually escapes his indifferent family and escapes to Edinburgh. Homeless, penniless and alone he puts his tree-top skills to use on the rooftops of the city, where he lives ferally, attempting to avoid the perils of the streets below and becoming voyeuristically obsessed with a girl who happens to look just like his mother.
Mackenzie's lyrical film makes stunning use of Edinburgh's
Gothic locations supported by a New-Folk soundtrack (Domino Records) that complements the glowering atmosphere perfectly.
Tickets: £4 (Students/Concessions £3)
