College Scoops Gold at Prestigious Media Awards

It may not quite be the Oscars but there were certainly heartfelt speeches, posh frocks and champagne, not to mention awards to take pride of place on the mantelpiece for West Herts College this month, when it went for gold at the media industry’s very own version of the Oscars – the Promax UK Awards.

There were smiles all round at London’s Grosvenor House, as FDMX’s partner college, West Herts College, scooped the Promax UK 2007 Judges’ Award, coming away with its very own Golden Muse and a seat on next year’s judging panel.

Judges concluded that West Herts College’s entries “exemplified the aims of the Promax UK Student Awards. Although the College runs a fact and fiction TV/film course dealing with longer film material, a strong effort was made to understand the marketing and promotion side of the industry and this could only benefit both the students and the promotion industry as a whole”.

And the celebrations didn’t end there, as no fewer than four students from West Herts College had successfully entered the Promax UK Sky Creative 2007 Student Awards and one of them, Georgina McLaughlin, was among the six short-listed nominees.

Georgina, who has just completed her Foundation Degree in Media Design and Production at the College, said: “I never expected to get so far and I’m really honoured to have been short-listed. I’m really proud of what I have achieved. Making the film was the easy bit, it was the interview with the panel of judges which was really daunting, but it was good practice for the real thing when the time comes.”
