Understanding Film 2

After the overwhelming popularity of the preceding Understanding Film 1 at Campus West, the Film Education Consortium for Hertfordshire are running the complementary short course Understanding Film 2 at the University of Hertfordshire from Wednesday April 23rd for 8 weeks.

Further develop your passion for film and the moving image in this further introductory course in Film Studies. This course is designed to complement Understanding Film 1 as an intermediate level, social study group with plenty of clips and discussion of the films, directors, genres, film language and style over the 8 weeks course. With no previous Film/Media Studies experience necessary newcomers to the course are also welcome to enroll on this informal evening course which hopes to hone your appreciation of cinema via stimulating and casual discussion.

Course tutor Darren Elliott (with visiting lecturers) will approach wide and varied topics including: Genre Extreme: Cult Film and Extreme Horror, Documentary Film, History of British Cinema, Star System Case Studies, Film Textual Analysis, Indian Cinema, and the history of Cinema exhibition and spaces of viewing.

Includes films such as: Dead Man's Shoes, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Reckless Moment, Rita, Sue and Bob Too, Witchfinder General, Grey Gardens and many more, featuring directors such as Robert Flaherty, Eli Roth, Max Ophuls, Robert Rodriguez and Guillermo Del Toro.

Course includes free comprehensive study pack and free feature screenings at the University of Hertfordshire’s Weston Auditorium, (Designated by the tutor).

Takes place weekly at the University of Hertfordshire, de Havilland Campus, R110 Wednesdays 6.30pm, 23rd April - 11th June for 8 weeks.
